Nebraskans for Job and Energy Independence hosted national experts on the subject this week.
Tuesday, they talked pipeline safety in Grand Island.
Former U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety administrator Brigham McCown said pipelines are the safest way to transport oil and the Keystone XL will be the safest ever built.
"The proponents of it need to do a better job of explaining why pipelines are needed in the country and opponents need to be truthful and realistic with everybody and say that, look, their main beef isn't with this pipeline. Their concern is over fossil fuels and that's fine. Let's have that debate over fossil fuels," said McCown.
The U.S. State Department has delayed a decision on Keystone XL until a lawsuit here in Nebraska is resolved.
Nebraskans have led the opposition to the pipeline. They argue it's also an issue of land rights.
