Probation, Jail Time Given to Man Who Shook Infant

A 23-year-old man has received more than two years of probation for shaking a baby last summer.

Cameron Hovey was sentenced Monday in Dawson County District Court to additional community service and 134 days in jail, with credit for 14 days already served.

Hovey pleaded guilty to vigorously shaking a 41/2-month-old infant last summer after prosecutors agreed to lower the charge.

According to court records, Hovey told police that he shook the child when he became panicked because he thought the baby had stopped breathing.

The infant suffered from brain damage due to the incident.
