Proposal Aims to Place Fine Arts On Par With Core Subjects
A proposalon its way to the State Board of Education could set standards for fine artseducation in Nebraska.
Supportersof the proposal hope its adoption would increase the importance of visual andperforming arts in schools. They would like to see its status on par with coresubjects like math, science and social studies.
Thedraft will be discussed at a public hearing in January and then go to the boardfor consideration, likely in February.
Ifapproved, classes that fall under the fine arts distinction could be mademandatory or be deemed as merely advisory.
