For the eighth straight year, Kearney will not raise the property tax.

The proposed budget comes in at just under $79 million.

The city is able to keep property taxes down because of their 1 ½-cent city sales tax. One percent of goes towards property tax relief.

This year they expect $11.6 million in revenue from the city’s sales tax. Sales tax revenue increased by more than four percent over the past couple of years.

With the proposed budget, the city will hire one more police officer and two more community service officers.

The public can give their feedback on the proposed budget at the next city council meeting.
