Grand Island Senior High's "Restoring a Masterpiece" campaign came to a close Friday, and the funds raised exceeded many's expectations.

The nearly year long fundraising campaign to restore the school's auditorium to its original look raised nearly $935,000. The original goal was $750,000.

A major donation of $250,000 by the Bosselman family kicked of the campaign in June.

School officials making the announcement Friday say they are overjoyed with the results.

"To be able to raise more than you need to bring this up to a modern facility, and then take it beyond the modern facility because of the structure is just phenomenal," said GISH Fine Arts Department Chair Greg Ulmer.

The major project will begin in June.

Refurbishing existing seats, replacing the floor, installing a new sound system and replacing the little theater stage are just a few of the major renovations set to begin.

All renovations are expected to be finished by August.
