"Roadway Heroes" Lets Kids Experience Different Jobs In Big Way

Imagine if your favorite childhood toy suddenly became larger than life.

From fire trucks to combines, kids got a chance to experience their favorite heavy machinery up close on Saturday, as Kearney Children's Museum hosted a 'Touch A Truck' event at the Hilltop Mall.

It's called "Roadway Helpers", a hands–on learning tool exploring the vehicles and occupations that help the Kearney community.

"It also can fuel children's imagination of what they would like to be and aspirations of what they would like to be in the future," said Kearney Children's Museum's Jennifer Beck. "This is just a great way for them getting interested in all these different vehicles and occupations."

Over 20 businesses and civic organizations were represented at Saturday's event, which also included safety information.

Organizers want to make this an annual event.
