April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the SAFE Center has volunteers painting teal ribbons on windows of area businesses and homes this month to call attention to sexual assault.

SAFE Center advocates say that while sexual assault cannot be stopped by the end of the month or even the endof the year, four keys can be applied to aid in efforts to prevent sexual assault.

      1. Realize Sexual Assault's a Problem Everywhere -- It's a global epidemic. In the U.S., someone issexually assaulted every 2 minutes.

      2. Silent No More -- Speaking out will create change. In order for change to occur, we must be silent no more.

      3. Bystanders Make aDifference -- Anyone andeveryone, can be part of the solution. Individuals can aggressively work to figure out how to find ways to create a culturewhere it is expected that people will report, interrupt, and intervene in situations of violence and abuse.

      4. Action is Powerful -- Everyone can become involved by raisingawareness to help end sexual violence. Have a teal ribbon painted on yourwindow to raise awareness. Attend Take Back the Night at UNK on April 18 at 7 p.m. Talk about this subject with friends, family and community members.

Of you would like your window painted, call the SAFE Center at 308.237.5277.
