Santa Claus' Wonderland

While Santa calls for Rudolph's nose and many elves on Christmas eve, he enlists the help of Dennis and Cathy Shannon on weekends leading up to the big night. Visitors walk through the Christmas wonders that they've created and take pictures with St. Nick.
"Not only is it Santa Claus, but it's the spirit, the spirit of giving and the spirit of love and joy and that's what it's all about. We want something for them to remember," said Cathy.
The Shannons only keep one list and it's a good one. It displays the names of numerous volunteers and organizations that have donated either items, money, and even the building for the wonderland. A free-will donation for visits help keep the lights on.
"We've got trees. We got lights. We got all kinds of decorations. People just want to see us do this. It's something that needs to be done," said Dennis.
Santa makes many stops to work off all the milk and cookies. He also will visit area nursing homes, Walmart and a church. He will host a pet picture night where all the money raised will go back to theHhumane Society.
"All of a sudden there you are and you're right in the middle of it and enjoying every minute."
"We would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, especially our fire department, police department, and all our troops overseas. God bless everyone and Merry Christmas!" [
Santa will be at his wonderland at 218 West First Street in McCook this Saturday and Sunday and the following two weekends including Friday nights from five to eight p.m.
