Sargent Woman Pleads No Contest in Deaths of Daughter, Friend

Amanda Wilder

A 29-year-old Sargent woman has pleaded no contest to charges of felony manslaughter following the deaths of her 11-year-old daughter and friend.

Amanda Wilder entered the plea in Buffalo County District Court after the charges were changed from felony child abuse charges.

Authorities say Wilder was driving on U.S. Highway 183 just south of Miller on Aug. 22 when she lost control of her pickup. The truck rolled, ejecting Wilder, her daughter Destani and 24-year-old Rebecca Veeder.

Wilder's daughter and Veeder were pronounced dead at the scene. Wilder and another daughter, 8-year-old Montannah, were treated at a hospital and released.

Investigators say none of the vehicle's occupants were wearing their seatbelts.
