Severe Weather Season Approaches, Red Cross Preparing Businesses with Ready Rating Program

Severe weather season is approaching in Nebraska and the American Red Cross is helping businesses, schools and other organizations prepare for possible damaging weather.

At a recent workshop, Red Cross disaster program manager Johnny Jones asked attendees whether their businesses were ready. He says up to 40 percent of businesses fail after a natural or man-made disaster.

That is why the Red Cross is pushing the Ready Rating program to prepare businesses and other organizations for emergencies.

Ready Rating members have access to tools and other resources to evaluate and then improve their ability to withstand disasters, maintain operations and protect lives and property.

The website includes the 123 Assessment, used to measure an organization's level of preparedness; the Ready Rating Store, which allows organizations to shop for preparedness equipment and supplies; an Emergency Response Planner, used to create customized emergency plans for your organization; and a Resource Center full of preparedness information, checklists and tools.
