Farmers and ranchers seeking help from federal disaster assistance programs can sign up beginning Tuesday, April 15.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture says quick implementation of the programs reestablished in the 2014 farm bill is a top priority.
"These programs will provide long-awaited disaster relief for manylivestock producers who have endured significant financial hardship fromweather-related disasters while the programs were expired and awaitingCongressional action," explained Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.
The Livestock Indemnity Program and the Livestock Forage DisasterProgram will provide payments to eligible producers for livestock deathsand grazing losses that have occurred since the expiration of the livestockdisaster assistance programs in 2011.
The April 15 date also applies to producers with losses covered by theEmergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program and the Tree Assistance Program.
Producers are encouraged to contact their local FSA office to determine what documentation will be needed to apply for aid.
