Snow, Rain Impact Parts of Nebraska Following Sunday's Storms

The severe storms that ripped through south central and eastern Nebraska Sunday have passed but heavy snow in western Nebraska has shut down portions of the interstate and rainy conditions in other parts of the state have prompted flood warnings.

The heavy spring snow has blanketed much of the Panhandle. National Weather Service meteorologist Tim Trudel said Monday that up to a foot of snow fell near Harrison in Sioux County on Sunday with about 6 inches on the ground north of Kimball.

Westbound travel on Interstate 80 remained closed Monday morning to keep travelers from heading into Wyoming, where conditions were even worse.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Hastings has issued flood warnings for Hamilton, York and Clay counties until after 9 p.m. Monday. Several county roads have closed as a result of the rain.
