Some Central Nebraska Cities will have Verizon 4G Service Soon
VerizonWireless has announced that customers in Grand Island, as well as a few other central Nebraska cities will soon have 4G LTE service.The company plans to launch the service to Grand Island, Norfolk and North Platte October 18. Kearney and Hastings,Neb. will also be launching 4G LTE service before the end of the year. Verizon Wireless first launched its4G LTE network in Omaha on Aug. 18, 2011, followed by Lincoln on Nov. 17, 2011,and since then the company has expanded both market areas this year. "With our 4G LTE network, customers can take advantage of the speeds offered byour 4G LTE devices and the innovative solutions that leverage 4G LTE technologyto enhance connectivity," said Seamus Hyland, president of the Great Plains Region forVerizon Wireless. "We will continue aggressively expanding and enhancingour 4G LTE network in Nebraska and across the country to provide our customerswith the best wireless experiencepossible." In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTEcustomers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second(Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink. The 4G LTE network is said to be up to 10 times faster than 3G.
4G LTE devices will automatically connect to VerizonWireless' 3G network when the 4G network is unavailable. People with 4G LTE devices that don't currently live in an area with 4G service can take advantage of 4G LTE speeds when the faster networkbecomes available in their area, or when they travel to areas already coveredby 4G LTE.To celebrate the new 4G LTE network, the Verizon Wireless Communications Store,located at 1108 Allen Drive in Grand Island, will be hosting an event on Oct.18.
