Members of the Universal Dance Association and the Universal Cheerleaders Association sent their judges to Grand Island to reward more 150 teams of cheerleaders and dancers for their work on the sidelines.
The 6th annual Nebraska State High School Cheer and Dance competition took place at the Heartland Events Center on Friday and Saturday.
Behind all the glitter pom-poms and school pride, dancers and cheerleaders said they've put in countless hours to make it to the state championships.
"It's harder than it looks…We practice Every single day of the week just so we can be ready for competition and for dancers to perform," said Carly Woerman a senior at North Bend Central.
The teams know for pumping up a crowd at their own high school football and basketball games had thousands pumping them up at the championships.
UCA and UDA officials and judges were looking for criteria falling under performance, choreography technique costuming and overall impression and making sure the dancers follow their safety criteria.
