Work has begun to make Grand Island's Stolley Park Road safer.

White lines have been painted on the two-lane road, which many drivers have used as a four-lane road in the past.

Public works officials said no parking signs will go up next month before the start of the regular school year.

The city council approved a parking ban on the street earlier this month.
