One hair cut at a time, a Grand Island girl is getting help battling a rare form of cancer.

Katelyn Sybrandt, 5, was diagnosed with Ependymoblastoma earlier this year and is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation at Children's Hospital in Omaha.

"It's the third known case worldwide for her type of cancer. The other two ahead of her, there was no follow up studies done," said organizer Aaron Sasges.

Sunday, salons like Trade Secrets and Cost Cutters came together to cut hair for a donation.

"This money will go towards helping the family with transportation costs, hotel costs, just any kind of costs that the family is going to incur over this next year," said Sasges.

"I just figured we'd donate our time. We're getting money from anybody who wants to donate to a good cause, so we're hoping we can raise enough to help out," said organizer Ashley Niedfelt, of Trade Secrets.

You can still help the Sybrandt family by donating to “Katelyn's Cancer Fund” at Home Federal Banks or attending a golf tournament that will be held on July 20 in Cairo.
