Holdrege- During this year's annual Holdrege Chamber Christmas promotion, shoppers will have the chance to take advantage of great deals during a new event in Holdrege.
Small Business Saturday is a nation-wide promotion dedicated to shopping at small, local businesses for Christmas. It is held each year on the Saturday between Black Friday and Cyber Monday--this year, that will be November 24. According to American Express, over one hundred million people participated by shopping at small stores in their communities on Small Business Saturday last year.
This year, Holdrege will celebrate Small Business Saturday with a day full of activities and promotions at local participating businesses. Over 30 Chamber members will be participating in the first annual celebration, according to the Holdrege Chamber Executive Director, Katie Madsen.
"We've decided to promote Small Business Saturday as part of Christmas Wonderland, our annual Christmas promotion, to encourage local shoppers to support our local businesses and to give our local businesses the chance to thank local shoppers for their support all year with great deals, promotions, and events," Madsen said.
Over 50 local businesses have contributed financially to make all of these events possible. "We are so grateful to all of the Chamber members who have stepped up to make the Christmas Wonderland promotion and Small Business Saturday a reality in Holdrege. Without their support, none of these events and promotions would be available for local shoppers!"
Some of the events and promotions that Madsen is referring to will be familiar traditions in Holdrege, and some will be new. A new addition this year is the "Shop Small, Shop Local" Badge.
Shoppers can get an extra chance in the Chamber's annual $5000 Chamber Check giveaway by earning their "Shop Small, Shop Local" badge. To earn this badge, shoppers can pick up a special Small Business Saturday stamp card at any participating business. By visiting 7 different participating businesses for a stamp and turning the completed card in at any business, shoppers will get an "I Shopped Small" sticker to show support, and an extra chance in the annual Chamber Check drawing to be held December 21 at First National Bank and 10:0 am. No purchase is necessary to earn a "Shop Small, Shop Local" badge.
Also, the Chamber is teaming up with the Holdrege Area Public Library to bring the first annual "Christmas Book Walk" to the community. The pages to A Holdrege Year, a children's book about Holdrege written and illustrated by Phil Soreide of One Good AdGuy, will be located in several businesses around town. Children are invited to stop by those businesses to collect each page and then head to the library to assemble and decorate their books.
Small Business Saturday will also mark Santa's first visit to Holdrege.
Santa will be at the F. Johnson Building from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the morning to visit with area young people. He'll make a stop at the North Burlington Shopping Center for "Cookies & Cocoa with Santa" from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., and then will spend the afternoon riding around town on his trolley with anyone who'd like to go for a ride. He'll finish the day with story time at the library at 4:00 p.m.
All area residents are invited to enjoy the Small Business Saturday celebration in Holdrege on November 24. More information about participating and sponsoring businesses is available on the Chamber website at holdregechamber.com.
