Survey Shows Shift Toward Soybeans Expected in Upcoming Planting Season

A big shift is expected for crop planting in 2014 as more farmers are leaning toward planting soybeans.

Market prices could be the reason farmers are planning to shift away from corn to soybeans this year, according to Farm Futures' second survey of planting intentions.

The survey shows corn seeding down nearly 4 percent from thetotal November estimate from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and all that ground not used for corn could wind up as soybeans.

The survey indicates farmers want to plant over 82 million acres of beans, nearly 8 percent more than in 2013 and a record amount.
