Jack Hoffman, the Atkinson boy who ran his way into the hearts of Husker fans is again battling a brain tumor.

Andy Hoffman, Jack's dad posted a journal entry on the CaringBridge website.

"Today we were humbly reminded that when your child has an inoperable brain tumor, that anything can happen at any point in time. Despite Jack's tumor being declared in remission (stable) last October, today we learned that that is no longer the case," Hoffman wrote.

On Twitter he said it was a "tough day."

Doctors told the family Jack's brain tumor has grown since it was last checked and surgery may be an option.

Jack first entered the spotlight in 2011 when he met Husker running back Rex Burkhead. The story quickly gained attention, and Jack eventually ran 69 yards for a touchdown in the 2013 Husker spring game.

The family has established the Team Jack Foundation, to raise funds for pediatric brain cancer.
