All three teens who escaped from the Kearney Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center Sunday night are back in custody after the third escapee was arrested Monday morning.
The Kearney Police Department received a call after three teens reportedly escaped from the Kearney Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center late Sunday night.
According to the initial police report, two of the three boys -- a 14-year-old and 16-year-old -- were found and returned to the YRTC. The third escapee -- a 16-year-old boy -- had not yet been located.
The third of three escapees from the YRTC was arrested Monday at 9:44 a.m. in the 200 block of South 2nd Avenue after a short police chase.
Police caught up with the teen who was armed with a knife and then used a Taser on the teen in order to safely arrest him. This is in accordance to departmental policy.
After a medical screening at Good Samaritan Hospital, the 16-year-old was taken to the Buffalo County Jail. He was arrested on felony charges of terroristic threats and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
