      Toy Drive Helps Salvation Army

A major retailer teamed up with a local organization to help families in need during the Christmas season.

Walmart helped volunteers from the Hastings Salvation Army on Saturday, to collect toys and coats for those less fortunate.

It's the first time they teamed up for this, setting up a trailer for customers who wished to purchase some much needed items. Officials say the public is very supportive.

"We're not just helping people at Christmas time with just toys but also with coats and other things we provide during winter months throughout the entire year," said Salvation Army's Major Abe Tamayo. "So it's very important to support the Salvation Army's ministries and low income families and enjoy Christmas but also have remedies for their needs through the entire year."

Saturday's toy drive brought in 197 items to the Hastings Salvation Army.

REPORTER'S NOTES: If you missed Saturday's toy drive and still wish to help, you can send monetary donations to the Hastings Salvation Army at 400 South Burlington. Donations will go toward the toy drive.
