Two Mountain Lions Taken in First Nebraska Season
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Hunters have killed two mountain lions in Nebraska's first regulated season on the big cats.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission says both were taken on Thursday in the Panhandle. A male weighing 103 pounds was killed in Sioux County. A male weighing 138 pounds was killed in Dawes County.
The taking of the two mountain lions ended the season, which opened Wednesday. Season 2 in the Pine Ridge area is scheduled to open on Feb. 15.
The commission established four units for hunting mountain lions. They are Pine Ridge in the northern Nebraska Panhandle, Upper Platte in the southern Panhandle, Keya Paha in north-central Nebraska, and Prairie, which covers the rest of the state.
