The University of Nebraska-Kearney baseball team held their 6th annual Upper Deck Club banquet. The nine and ten year-old Little League baseball team also joined them at the Younes Conference Center in Kearney.

Hundreds of people ranging from baseball players to the mayor to even the big shot New York Yankee pitcher Joba Chamberlain, who began his career at UNK, came out to join in the festivities.

There were silent and live auctions to help support the teams; and with the Lopers moving into the MIAA conference, the travel bills are expected to add up.

"You know travel costs have gone up tremendously for baseball. I think it's one of those situations to where on paper you just have to figure out ways to be more frugal and figure out how to get from point A to B and spend less money doing it. You can either complain about it or do something and we chose to do something about it," said UNK head baseball coach Damon Day.

The funds will also benefit Memorial Field in Kearney where the team plays. Back in November a few people vandalized that field causing thousands of dollars in damage.

Some of the money raised will also help the Nebraska Little League team after coming off their best season ever.
