Kearney, Neb. – The Central Oklahoma men's basketballteam made 13 three pointers and sunk 25 free throws to outscoreNebraska-Kearney, 96-82, Saturday afternoon in Edmond.
The Bronchos improve to 11-5 (5-4) while the Lopers slip to5-10 (2-7). UNK is now 1-8 on the road, giving up an average of 90.0 points pergame in those contests.
UNK actually out shot UCO, 56.0%to 55.8%, but trailed for the last 31 minutes. UCO made eight more triples thanthe Lopers as well as four more free throws.
Having five score in doublefigures. UCO went on a 10-0 run midway through the first half to grab the leadfor good. This stretch featured two threes by senior forward Josh Gibbs (6-5,235 lbs.) and a trey by 6-7 sophomore Cal Andrews.
The run gave UCO a 22-15 lead andUNK didn't get the deficit under three points the rest of the way.
Broncho sophomore Aaron Anderson,averaging 12 points per game on the season, erupted for 28 thanks to an 8 of 13effort (3 of 5 threes) from the field. Also making nine free throws, the 6-3guard had a team-high six assists as well.
Andrews scored 16 by going 3 of 6from the three point line with 6-0 freshman guard Jacob Richardson coming offthe bench to score 15 on 3 of 5 three point shooting. Finally, Gibbs (10) washeld 12 points below his season average.
Norfolk sophomore post EthanBrozek paced the Lopers, having 13 of his team-high 18 points in the secondhalf. Fouling out in 20 minutes, he was 6 of 7 at the line and 6 of 9 from thefield.
Junior guard Davion Pearson (Las Vegas,Nev.) had 13 of his 17 points after the break with Benkelman senior post KendalGlidden having all nine of his point in the first half. Finally, senior postMike Dentlinger went 7 of 8 from the field to finish with 16. He also had ateam-best six rebounds.
Besides Brozek, four other Lopershad four or more fouls. UNK was out rebounded by one, 26-25, and had one moreturnover, 13-12.
Kearneyis at Pitt State Wednesday and hosts South Dakota Mines next Friday.
