UPDATE: Trial Set for Lincoln Man Accused in Upland Child Sex Ring
A Lincoln man accused of paying an Upland, Nebraska, woman for sex with her teenage daughter has his trial date set.
Donald Grafe, 38, made an appearance in Lancaster County District Court Wednesday to face charges for allegedly having sex with a then–14–year–old girl last year. His trial will take place in July.
Grafe is one of five men accused in the case, and now, it's up to a jury to decide his fate.
Police say 36–year–old Michelle Randall sent pornographic pictures of her then-14– and 7–year–old daughters to several men, including Grafe, and allowed the men to have sex with her daughters in exchange for cash.
According to court records, Grafe paid Randall $100 to have sex with her teen daughter in his semi at a Lincoln truck stop last year.
Court records say Randall also performed sexual acts with Grafe on two different occasions for $50.
Authorities say Grafe and Randall exchanged 598 text messages or phone conversations between March 16 and April 25 of last year.
Randall's boyfriend – 42–year–old Shad Chandler, also of Lincoln – has also been convicted for his role in the case, and was sentenced earlier this month to 15 to 45 years in prison, after pleading guilty to 1st-degree sexual assault of a child.
He will also have to register as a sex offender.
Investigators say Chandler had sex with Randall's teen daughter anywhere from 15 to 40 times in front of Randall, and that, at times, Randall even joined in.
Court records also say Chandler performed sexual acts with Randall's then–7–year–old daughter.
Two of the other five men accused in the prostitution ring have also been convicted.
Logan Reopke, 23, of McCook, was sentenced in February to 6 months in prison and five years probation for having sex with the teen several times when she was 13, while Randall watched.
Brian McCarthy, 34, of Lincoln, was also sentenced in February to 6 to 10 years in prison.
And the last man involved, 29–year–old Alex Rahe, of Omaha, will be sentenced next week for having oral sex with the teen on one occasion.
As for Randall, she will spend the rest of her life behind bars after being convicted of multiple felonies in Franklin and Buffalo counties.
An exact date for Grafe's trial hasn't been set. The Lancaster County District court clerk said it will happen sometime in July.
