VA Stand Down Event Joins Grand Island's Project Homeless Connect to Reach Homeless Vets
The VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System will be assisting VA eligible veterans with health screenings and other services in conjunction with Grand Island's Project Homeless Connect.
Homeless veterans will have the chance to get in out of the cold and eat a hot meal at the VA's "Stand Down" event on Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is being held at the Evangelical Free Church, 2609 S. Blaine St. in Grand Island.
Eligible veterans will be provided with a free health screening and general VA assessment as well as access to limited free clothing.
Veterans are encouraged to enroll for VA health care benefits before the event, but those who are not enrolled can register at the event and receive more information about available services.
Veterans wanting to enroll before the event can do so at the Grand Island VA, 2201 N. Broadwell Ave.
Other services will be available at the event site as part of Grand Island's Project Homeless Connect, a one-day, one-stop event for individuals and families who are homeless or near homeless. Such services include legal service, dental care, hair cuts, etc. and do not require enrollment in VA health benefits.
