Valentine Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, 1 Injured


VALENTINE, Neb. (AP) -- Two men are dead and another has been hospitalized inshootings that involved a police officer in the northern Nebraska town ofValentine.

Cherry County Attorney Eric Scott said that a Valentine police officerresponded to a report of a shooting just before midnight Tuesday. Scott saysthe officer arrived to find 54-year-old Rickey Homan dead, 76-year-old JohnMalone shot in the face and a suspect at the scene.

Scott says the officer shot and killed the suspect, identified by officialsas 47-year-old Alvin Clark, of Valentine.

Authorities say Malone was taken to a Valentine hospital and is listed instable condition.

Nebraska law requires a grand jury be convened anytime someone dies while inpolice custody or in the process of being apprehended.
