Grand Island Vets Celebrate Father's Day
Recognizing veterans on Father's Day, the United Veterans Club in Grand Island served up a special buffet.
The UVC is known for food and entertainment for veterans and their families.
"Seeing all the fathers come out, enjoy family time -- we have a lot of bigger groups that are here for fathers," Michelle Lemburg, with the UVC, said.
Janet Roberts was attending the buffet with her husband, Army veteran Rodney Roberts.
"The club means a lot to me because of its recognition of our veterans and those still serving," Janet Roberts said. "We come here every Sunday for breakfast."
Many attending say they come for the competitive prices, good food and family-like environment.
Gerald Spencer, a World War II veteran, was also attending the Father's Day buffet.
"We try to make it here every Saturday," he said. "It's a good place to eat."
Spencer, who was also celebrating his birthday, joked, "I'm 29 going on 87."
The Veterans Club began serving breakfast on Sundays five years ago, and officials say the attendance has grown through the years. They're open to the public.
