      Volunteer Help Still Needed following Tornadoes

      Volunteers continue to be needed to help, following devastating tornadoes in northeast Nebraska in Coleridge, Pilger, Wakefield and Stanton County.

      Volunteers are requested to help the town of Coleridge this Saturday, June 28. Volunteers are needed to remove debris in town and adjacent fields. Bring work gloves, wear appropriate clothing, and come with any other personal protective gear you feel is necessary.

      There is also a need for volunteers with chain saws. Rakes, shovels, etc. will be on site. Coleridge will provide food, buckets, sunscreen and bug repellent.

      Volunteers should report to the Coleridge Community Building,111 S Main St., anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday

      Those who wish to help with recovery efforts in Pilger should report to the Pilger Swimming Pool for check-in and assignments between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. A call-in line remains in place to address all volunteer opportunities for Pilger. The call-in-line, 402-833-1515, can be reached between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m..

      Stanton County needs volunteers as well, to help clean debris at area farms. Volunteers can check in at the Stanton County Courthouse between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to receive work assignments. Volunteers who have ATVs available are desired. If volunteering as a group, please call 402-658-5060 in advance. General questions can be answered at 402-439-2900.

      Help is also needed in the Wakefield area. Volunteers are asked to report directly to the Wakefield Fire Station for check-in and assignments between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Volunteers can call 402-287-2574.

      NEMA says monetary donations continue to be the best way to help citizens affected by the storm. Multiple funds have been established.
