An informational meeting is being held Tuesday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum of Nebraska Art for individuals interested in volunteering to help with Kearney's Centennial Celebration of the Lincoln Highway.
The Centennial Celebration is atwo-day event in Kearney set for Sunday, June 30, and Monday, July 1, indowntown Kearney and at the Great Platte River Road Archway.
"It will be an exciting two daysin Kearney," said Sarah Focke, Kearney Visitors Bureau Tourism Manager and coordinatorfor the national event. "We hope the locals will come out in full force to helpus, plus enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime celebration."
"Approximately 250 volunteerpositions will need to be filled over the two days of the event, with mostshifts being two to four hours," said Ronnie O'Brien, co-chair for theevent, and Director of Cultural Education at the Great Platte River RoadArchway.
Peoplewill be needed to help with various jobs including information booths, traffic,serving meals, re-enactors, and directing traffic for classic cars. The downtown celebration on June 30 and July1 will feature twin auto tours arriving from both coasts.
