Woman Pleads Guilty to Reduced Charge in Death of Guide Rock Woman

      Shelley Casterline

A month before her trial was set to begin, a Guide Rock woman has reached a deal with prosecutors for the death of her boyfriend's 68-year-old mother.

Shelley Casterline pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Adams County District Court earlier this week.

She and her 23-year-old son, Andrew Casterline, were charged with first-degree murder for the Oct. 4 stabbing of Virginia Barone, the mother of Shelley Casterline's live-in boyfriend.

Barone was found partially covered by boards in her Guide Rock home on Oct. 5 with more than 20 stab wounds.

The Casterlines were arrested in Iowa that same day. They had been accused of mugging a woman in a parking lot and traveling in stolen SUV.

Andrew Casterline has pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder charge. His trial is scheduled to begin on May 27.

Sentencing for Shelley Casterline has been set for June 10.
