Wrestlers Compete In Honor Of Former Hastings Bronco At Cusatis Open
A former Hastings College wrestler's legacy lives on as teams compete both for themselves, and in honor of their fallen teammate and competitor.
The mats were full of action at the 2nd annual Cusatis Open in Hastings on Saturday. The tournament was re–named last year, after Hastings Bronco wrestler Brad Cusatis died in a train crash in 2012.
Head coach Shawn Kelley says after Brad's death many coaches reached out in support, and this is one way they can share Brad's memory.
"A lot of hands reached out to us last year," said coach Shawn Kelley. "We go to a lot of tournaments that are named after somebody. So a lot of the coaches, when they get the shirt they'll remember Brad, the ones that gotta coach against him and the others that just respect him for what he is."
Cusatis was on the wrestling team for four and a half years at Hastings College before his death.
