Mid winter temps can't stop a group of central Nebraska runners from being dedicated to their craft.

From Grand Island to Doniphan to Hastings, several athletes ran 26 miles of back roads for the Y to Y challenge.

There's not many distance races offered in the area during the winter months, and organizers say it's a way for them to get their training in and have a little fun along the way.

"We feel it's important to be active and for us, we enjoy running," said organizer Mike Florek. "Other people might cycle or exercise. We enjoy our running and the fellowship us runners share."

Twenty-five runners participated on Saturday by either starting in Grand Island for the full 26 miles or joining in at the halfway point in Doniphan for 13 miles.
