Outdoor Files: Holiday activities around the state
Good morning. The merry holiday season is upon and Game and Parks embraces that as well. A number of our parks have scheduled events. Easy way to view that is to open our calendar at our website OutdoorNebraska.org
One of those activities is Christmas In The Woods. This will be taking place the next 3 Saturdays at Ponca State Park. Seasonal crafts, family photos, decorate cookies and cupcakes, attend outdoor programs, ride a lighted hayrack wagon. Consider a comfy stay in one of the family cabins. Call our reservations line for vacancy possibilities there or at any of our parks with winter lodging.
Arbor Lodge in Nebraska City and Buffalo Bill Ranch at North Platte will have several festive open house weekends. Again, please check the calendar tab at OutdoorNebraska.org for more details.
In Hunting Season news, the muzzleloader deer season begins this Friday December 1st and runs through the month. With issuing fee, just a $40 dollar permit, $8 for youth. Great chance to hunt like they did in early America.
Also December 1st thru February is the opening of the hunt or trap season on bobcats.
For folks in east central Nebraska, come on out to Platte River State Park this Saturday for Archery On Fire from 10-2. Other than needing a daily or annual park entry permit, the event is free. Besides archery, there will be crossbow shooting, pellet guns, tomahawk throws, kids crafts, and food.
This final note, a doctored dock situation at Lake Ogallala. This new handicapped accessible dock is in place in the northwest corner of the lake. It creates a shortcut across the opening to a little cove. The old structure had been destroyed by a storm a couple years back. Thanks to the Keith County Visitors Committee for funding assistance with this project.
