Bake: Preheated 450 degree oven
Time: 5 minutes
Makes: 2 Pizza Crusts
- 2 greased pizza pans, set aside.
- 1 recipe Basic Tomato Sauce.
In mixer bowl, with a dough hook, combine:
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tbs honey or sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 pkg (1 tbs) dry yeast
Mix together until everything is dissolved. Set aside at room temperature until mixture becomes bubbly, about 10 minutes. If it doesn't become bubbly, the yeast is not active; throw the mixture out and start over.
Add to mixture:
- 1/4 c. canola or olive oil
- 2 cups white whole wheat flour
Beat at medium speed until flour is thoroughly mixed.
Add to the mixture enough flour to make a soft elastic dough:
1 to 1 1/2 c. unbleached flour.
Place on a floured surface and knead until dough is no longer sticky. Place in large bowl and allow the dough to double in size. Divide the dough in half; form into balls and roll into 12-15 inch circles. Place on 12-15 inch pizza pans. Crimp the edge of the dough and prick the dough inside with a fork and set aside and allow the dough to double to double. Bake as instructed above. Place on wire cooling rack.
Prepare Season Ground Beef while dough is rising.
In a stainless steel skillet combine:
- 1 lb. (80/20) ground beef
- 1 tsp sweet basil
- 1/2 tsp oregano
- 1 clove freshly squeezed garlic
- salt and pepper to taste
After meat is browned, drain off excess grease and set aside to cool.
Putting it together:
Bake: Preheated, 450 degree oven
Time: 10 minutes
Spread evenly over each cool crust;
- 1/2 to 1 c. basil tomato sauce
- divide evenly cooked seasoned ground beef
Bake for 5 minutes.
Sprinkle over the top of each pizza:
1/2 to 1 cup mozzarella cheese
