Annual veterans day at state fair features special events for veterans
Not only did veterans get in free on Monday at the state fair, they were honored with a special program.
On Monday, the annual Nebraska State Fair Veterans Day celebration took place. It aimed to honor veterans and current services members.
During the program there was a U.S. flag ceremony, musical program and salute to veterans. They were asked to stand or wave to be recognized.
"I think it demonstrates that a lot of people in Nebraska have and continue to serve our great country," said veteran Red Smith.
One of the program hosts Travis Karr said the message at the programs is to unite veterans of all era's.
"A lot of times we see younger veterans maybe not mixing with our older veterans and you see when you came in today the maps where our younger veterans helped the older veterans pin where they served, and our message today was really to connect veterans and help each other out," Karr said.
Different activities were slated into the evening on Monday.
