State Fair Attendance Down Despite Daily Gains
Despite higher attendance on three of the first four days of the Nebraska State Fair, overall attendance is down slightly, likely due to the heat.
Numbers were up every day but Sunday, when the heat index hit 100. On that day, the fair saw 6,000 fewer visitors than it did on the same day a year ago.
State Fair Executive Director Joseph McDermott said the fair's biggest attendance days are yet to come, and he added that the fair's customer satisfaction surveys continue to run near 95 percent.
McDermott advised fairgoers to stay hydrated, saying they saw an increase in heat related illness on Sunday.
However, he said with the addition of air-conditioning to the Fonner Concourse, all of the buildings are now air-conditioned, and there are more shade areas than ever before. He said there are many places fairgoers can go to take refuge from the heat.State Fair
