As we count down to the last couple weeks until the 144th annual Nebraska State Fair, officials are taking care of final business.
The Nebraska State Fair board met for the last time on Saturday; taking reports and putting the finishing touches on last–minute details like volunteer numbers and new construction projects.
While groundwork is already being done like setting up canopies, hanging banners, and putting up signage, officials are confident they'll be able to tackle those little unexpected surprises between now and opening day.
"We know how to put together a good event. You always have to count on putting out little fires just prior to event or during event," said executive director Joseph McDermott. "So I've got the right people in place to do that who have good experience with Nebraska State Fair, so you're right, those little things do come up, but we'll be prepared for them."
There's only 12 days until the fair kicks off from August 23rd through September 2nd.
