State Fair "shatters" Grand Island attendance records
The Nebraska State Fair may be closing in on an all-time attendance record, after more than 379,000 people attended in 2017.
"This number shatters the attendance for the last year in Lincoln when the attendance was 367,203," said Executive Director Joseph McDermott.
This marks the largest crowd the fair has attracted in Grand Island, and now larger even than the final year in Lincoln.
McDermott said only one attendance record remains, and that's the all-time high of 389,171 set in 1997. McDermott said he belives that number could be reached next year.
More importantly, McDermott said, surveys show fairgoers give high marks for the quality of the event. More than 88 percent of visitors say they are likely or very likely to recommend the fair to others.
