Sunday Salute: Bishop Dendinger

This week we salute a Grand Island bishop, William Dendinger.
Bishop Dendinger was born in Coleridge, Nebraska in the late thirties and was ordained in the mid-1960's. In 1970 he decided to enter into the military as a chaplain. Bishop Dendinger served for over 30 years, starting out as a Base Chaplain. He later went on the serve as a member of the Chaplain Resource Board for the U.S. Air Force Chaplain Institute among other positions ending his service as the Chief of Air Force Chaplain Services.
He retired as a two star General in 2001.
Bishop Dendinger said celebrating the sacraments is the most inspiring of all his duties.
After his time as a military chaplain he was a pastor St. Stephan The Martyr Church in Omaha before being named Bishop of the Grand Island Diocese in 2004.
