Sunday Salute: Deward McIntosh

We are honoring late World War II veteran Deward McIntosh as this week's Sunday Salute.

Deward was born in 1918 on a farm east of Petersburg.

He joined the Army in November of 1941 and served until 1945. After serving his country he returned to Nebraska to farm.

Deward married Helen Gdowski in 1948 and the couple farmed several parts of Nebraska before moving to a farm south of Palmer in 1960. He also worked at the Veterans Affairs medical center in Grand Island for 20 years.

Helen passed away in 2000. In 2004, Deward married Carol Lee Debrie and the couple continued to live on the farm until 2013, when they relocated to Grand Island.

Deward passed away last month.

Deward has one great great grandson, twenty–nine great grandchildren and twenty–three grandchildren.

One of his grandchildren, Bryan, nominated Deward for this week's Sunday Salute.

Deward, we thank you for your service to our country.
