Sunday Salute: Eduardo Devera
This week we would like to honor someone close to the NTV family.
The father of our weekend producer and reporter Jobeth Devera bravely served our country throughout his long and esteemed military career.
During his college years Eduardo Devera, also known as Eddie, was called to be in the U.S. Navy and left for the Philippines in November of 1981.
After being stationed in several places, like Guam and Long Beach, Eddie and his family were assigned to San Diego, California in 1989 where they settled through his retirement.
Working as a machinist mate on the U.S.S. Proteus, the U.S.S. McKee, and the U.S.S. Constellation Eddie quickly excelled through the ranks.
He served his country in combat duty during the Persian Gulf War and in the war on terrorism.
He climbed the ranks from Third Class to Chief Petty Officer throughout his 23 proud years of service in the U.S. Navy. Eddie retired in September 2004.
He passed away in January 2008.
He is survived by his wife, Maria, who said he was a very loving husband and father always taking charge around the house.
His two daughters and son said he was a "jack-of-all-trades" and always "the life of the party."
Eddie is greatly missed every day by those he loved and those who loved him.
Eddie, thank you for your many years of service to our country.
