Six tips from the CDC (Centers of Disease Control)

1. Make an appointment for a check-up or screening

a. Regular dental/oral and medical exams and tests can help find problems before they start or in early stages when treatments are more successful

2. Wash your hands to stop the spread of infection and illness

a. 5 simple steps can create a much healthier environment for us all

i. Wet

ii. Lather

iii. Scrub

iv. Rinse

v. Dry

3. Make healthy food choices

a. Reduce sugar, salt and saturated fats

b. Choose more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, healthy dairy products, lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, nuts and eggs

4. Get active

a. Start small if you haven’t been active

b. Find a friend to exercise with or group to join for better accountability

5. Be tobacco free

a. If you are ready to quit, call 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669)

6. Get enough sleep

a. Lack of sleep is associated with a number of chronic diseases and conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and depression

b. Adults need 7 or more hours sleep per night
