The opioid crisis is hitting families all across Ohio, and one mother who recently lost her son to a heroin overdose is hoping the candid obituary she wrote about her son will lead others to get help.

Michelle Benson says her son, Adam, struggled with addiction but never stopped fighting. In her 25-year-old son's obituary, she wrote what her son loved, including going to the gym, Harry Potter and four-wheeling. However, she says now that her son lost his life to a heroin overdose, he'll also be remembered as a statistic. Benson talked to WEWS in Cleveland about the candid obituary she wrote about her son, where she said he made a "bad decision" to experiment with opiates leading him to a world of heroin.

Benson says her son battled addiction for years and tried to get help, "there are so many families struggling and they just keep it quiet because it's shameful and they're ashamed, because there's a real stigma attached to it."
