Buffalo County bringing in referees for valuation protests

The Buffalo County Assessor’s Office is preparing to send out valuations to property owners.

Protest hearings will be held between June 1 and July 25.

Buffalo County Assessor Ethel Skinner said it’s important people follow the deadlines, otherwise they may be stuck paying higher taxes than needed.

This year the Board of Commissioners has hired four referees to hear protests instead of commissioners.

Board Chair Bill McMullen said the referees come at a pricey hourly rate, but he says he thinks it will save the county money in the long run.
