Electronics Recycling Day aims to clean up the community
An organization focused on recycling held a clean community systems electronic day on Wednesday.
People could stop by their location to drop off electronics that don't work or are not usable anymore.
This event was put together by the Grand Island Area Clean Community System.
The group accepted TVs and other small electronics like printers, VCRs and telephones.
The items then get recycled.
The executive director of the organization says the day's purpose is to help the environment and make sure the items don't end up in landfills or pollute the water system or ground.
"We all have TVs that are sitting in our garages or our storage sheds that there's nowhere to dispose of them safely. We don't want them to go in our landfills," said Denise McGovern-Gallagher.
The Clean Up System accepts small electronics on a daily basis, as well as other household products.
