Four suspects arrested following Central City manhunt
A Central City car chase and manhunt ends with four suspects charged.
According to the Central City Police Department, the driver Christopher Sanchez, 20 is facing felony charges: flight to avoid arrest, possession of a stolen vehicle, criminal mischief, willful reckless driving and obstruction of police.
The three passengers, Mario A. Castro-Villagomez, 18, Christian M. Alvarez, 19, and Rigo A. Estrada, 19 are all facing obstruction of a police officer. More charges may be added after review of reports.
All four are Grand Island residents.
The chase took place Thursday afternoon. According to Police, the stolen 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis reached speeds of 70 to 80 miles per hour while traveling through the city.
The car chase ended when the vehicle struck a utility pole, but continued as three of the four occupants fled on foot. With community help, all suspects were apprehended within one and half hours.
Police say the car was stolen from Grand Island earlier this month.
