Grand Island Police officer accused of assaulting female
The Grand Island Police Department received information about the alleged assault of a 26 year old Grand Island female by an officer of the Grand Island Police Department Michael S. Lyon on Nov. 6.
According to Grand Island Police, this incident allegedly occurred at a Grand Island residence on Oct. 30 at about 11:30 p.m. Michael Lyon has been placed on administrative leave by the Grand Island Police Department pending the findings of parallel criminal and internal investigations.
Police said this event did not occur while on duty. However, the Grand Island Police Department said they hold high standards for its employees both on and off duty and that these allegations fall well outside of those boundaries.
GIPD said Lyon’s leave of absence will continue until the investigation is completed.
Lyon has not been arrested and police said this is not an arrestable offense.
Police said this investigation has been submitted to the Hall County Attorney’s Office for review and consideration for criminal charges of 3rd Degree Misdemeanor Assault.
