Inmate found unresponsive at Jefferson County Jail, dies in Lincoln Hospital
FAIRBURY, Neb. —
A grand jury is planned after officials say an inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at the Jefferson County Jail.
The sheriff said 61-year-old Mark Scheetz was arrested May 5 for suspicion of attempted murder, terroristic threats and assault.
Just after 1 in the morning on May 7, he said jail staff found Scheetz unresponsive and tried to revive him. He was taken to the Jefferson Community Hospital and treated for a heart attack, then flown to a Lincoln hospital.
The sheriff said the inmate died Friday afternoon.
As required by state law, a grand jury must be called to investigate.
