A car was set on fire in the middle of Kearney, now the Kearney Police Department and State Fire Marshal's office are investigating the possible arson.

Captain Mike Kirkwood said the 9–1–1 call came in after 10 p.m. Wednesday. Police got to the 2700 block of Avenue D before fire crews, and found a car engulfed in flames.

After the fire department got the fire out, investigators say they discovered someone had a thrown a cinder block through the back window and slashed the tires before starting the fire.

K.P.D. doesn't think there's anyone going around randomly setting fire to cars.

"There's no reason we found out why this would happen. If someone just took it out on this car, we're not sure," said Kirkwood. "We haven't had any type of threats, anything like that with the victim or the owner of the vehicle so it's nothing to panic about."

Kirkwood said there are no suspects but charges will be filed if probable cause can be found.
